The Shopify vape ban, everything merchants need to know.
On 23 June 2026 Shopify announced a US platform-wide ban on all vape and e-cigarette products. The merchant cutoff was 7 July 2026. Here is what happened, what it means for your store, and how to move to a store you own.
A bipartisan coalition of 25 state attorneys general plus New York City pressured Shopify to stop hosting ENDS sales. Shopify responded with a total US ban on vape and e-cigarette products, regardless of nicotine content. Non-compliant stores were disabled around 7 July 2026 and now show “This store is currently unavailable.” Appeals are allowed but, with only about 45 FDA-authorized ENDS products nationwide, almost all tobacco or menthol, they are hopeless for most flavoured-vape sellers. The lesson is bigger than vape: on a rented platform, the clause that removed this category can reach the next one.

The Shopify ban is US-scoped, but category-level enforcement pushes globally. If you sell across borders, these apply too.
United Kingdom
Single-use disposables banned since 1 June 2025. Vaping Products Duty at £2.20 per 10ml starts 1 October 2026. MHRA TPD/TRPR notification runs six months before sale, 20mg/mL nicotine cap.
European Union
TPD Article 20 caps nicotine at 20mg/mL and bans cross-border promotion. Belgium banned disposables from January 2025, France under Law 2025-175, Ireland is legislating.
Canada
Federal nicotine cap of 20mg/mL. A national flavour ban is drafted but not in force. Tobacco-only flavour rules already apply in Quebec, Nova Scotia, PEI, and others.
Australia
Nicotine vapes are pharmacy-only since 1 July 2024. From 1 July 2025 flavours are restricted to mint, menthol, and tobacco, with a 50mg/mL nicotine cap.
