Shopify alternatives
Shopify alternatives in 2026, compared by a migration agency.
We move stores onto WooCommerce, so that is our recommendation for most. But the honest answer is that the right platform depends on your business, so here is a fair look at the real options.
The main options
Seven platforms, and who each is for.
| Platform | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| WooCommerce | Owning your stack, SEO, restricted categories, full control | You run the hosting and updates, or pay someone to |
| BigCommerce | Bigger catalogues that still want a hosted platform | Still rented rules, annual sales thresholds push you up plans |
| Wix | Very small stores that value drag-and-drop simplicity | Limited scaling, weaker SEO and data portability |
| Squarespace | Design-led brands with small catalogues | Commerce features are thinner, less extensible |
| Adobe Commerce (Magento) | Large enterprises with developer teams | Heavy, expensive, overkill for most SMBs |
| PrestaShop | Open-source fans in the EU market | Smaller plugin ecosystem than WooCommerce |
| Ecwid | Adding a small store to an existing site | Not a full storefront platform on its own |
General platform positioning, 2026. Verify current pricing and limits with each vendor before deciding.
Why we recommend WooCommerce
For SMB and mid-market, it is the balance point.
It is free, open-source, and runs on hosting you own, so no platform can remove your store. It has the largest plugin ecosystem of any open-source commerce platform, full SEO control, and payment freedom including the high-risk gateways that restricted categories need. It is more work than a hosted platform, which is why we migrate it for you and can maintain it after.
A tiny store that will never grow and wants zero maintenance may be happier on a hosted builder. A true enterprise with a dev team and complex B2B needs may fit Adobe Commerce. We will say so on the call rather than force a migration.
